Nippu is completely woven around Ravi Teja, whose name is Surya (does it strike a resemblance?) The onus on him is greater than any middle class family hero. He has to save his friend who has been indicted on charges of murder and is languishing in a Saudi jail, keep his friend's family in high spirits so that they don't feel his absence, reform a good for nothing family member and goad the spirits of his friend's sister again to excel in sports.

Just not that the bigger responsibility is to get a mercy petition signed by Pradeep Rawat, the main villain whose daughter is the person involved with his friend and has accidently slipped to death, and get his pal out of jail. Incidentally Pradeep Rawat is the same man who is nursing a grudge against the hero for biting into his 'settlement' money. There are extended villains too but let us see if all these people help the story move forward.

Gunasekhar who delivered a disaster titled Varudu is grappling with form, he has a good and a simple plot here with a suspense revealed just half an hour before the break but the point is he goofed up on the narration. Nippu begins with a good intro of Raghu Babu but his role is abruptly terminated showing that there are more than two baddies in the story.

The director attempts to show that the hero belongs to all regions other than Telangana which is a clear departure freom insecure filmmakers who keep adding the Telanaga quotient to please the section. But unfortunately he makes it redundant by using multiple dialogues involving the regions, once is always interesting but if you keep harping the same dialogue in different format it loses the sting.

The director who has a fetish for grandiose sets does away with such elements here but shows the richness and arid, semi arid and icy locations, which are an absolute treat to watch. Needless to say the songs hardly make an impact, the first one especially shows the fire and spark spilling out of transforms to justify the title. Immaturity at it's heights.

There are a lot of unnecessary people like Harish Shankar, Krishnudu, Geeta Singh, etc., who hardly add value to the story. The big complication is the status of the villains, are they comedians or are do they seriously have an axe to grind? The dosti song that celebrates friendship is tiresome and the drunken scene of the heroine waking up to a fresh pair of clothes in the morning after stupor is something we have been seeing since donkeys years.

Rajendra Prasad in an vestigal role actually overacts. The only plus point is Ravi Teja who holds the attention but that again for a while, the director doesn't succeed in keeping the audience alert as the agenda to reach the end becomes predictable.

Sriram's love track is flimsy as well, a woman falling from the terrace trying to hold on a love letter is not convincing. The dialogues sparkle here and there, Akula Siva and Sridhar Seepana have done a convincing job though. The bike scene on a volley of trucks reminds you of Mahesh's in Sainikudu on the bridge.

Ravi Teja looks helpless expecting equal spark and reaction from others to give him company. Deeksha Seth is just right for the hero and her 'athletic' personality is tailor made; Sriram doesn't have much of a quantity but he does well, the screenplay and editing has much to be desired.

FYI, Nippu doesn't require any fire engine to douse it, as the creators themselves have indulged the torching act. A flop is far more acceptable than a film that raises expectations only to make one feel that it could have been far better.
